When I heard about this subject, it’s like I was on the edge of my seat! I’ll learn about technology in language learning! What kind of technology I should applied in. What technique I should use. I can’t wait for the next session!
As you know technology is the most sophisticated things that human ever made to make this life easier than before. With technology we can create any impossible thing to make it happen possible. For instance, the age when mobile phone hasn’t founded yet, we need more than a month to give information to our family in other city. Now, we just type and send. Our information will be delivered in second.
Lately, internet is the other most popular things which people use, especially in education field. In my previous study, we use online examination on ICT lesson. It’s very helpful both teacher and students. So, we have to click the answer and submit it. Later, there will come up our result, how many right or wrong answers we made. My ICT teacher made it. He also made brief explanations of each question. It shows us that technology made the examination become much easier.
In learning language, there’s a term called CALL—Computer Assisted Language Learning. Throughout the year, CALL has been developed due to technology development itself; from drill and practice, communicative design to the usage of multimedia and internet nowadays. CALL is a popular way in the language learning and teaching. Many governments in Indonesia have developed ICT on each school. They begin to think that ICT is the best way in the language learning and teaching. But that also doesn’t mean technology solve all problems of learning language. There are also disadvantages of technology because of the variety of human characters and situation. What I want to say is we should not depend only on technology.
But somehow, as a teacher to be, we still have to learn and master technology. Like what Pak Teguh — my TLL lecturer, said we’re going to teach digital generations which are our future students. Basically, we are also a digital generation, so it means no excuse for us to deeper our skill using technology.
Do you agree that technology can enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning process?
ReplyDeleteSure, I agree. For instance, we can take a look several years ago teacher wrote all the importance point on the blackboard. Nowadays, we can use power point and show it through the projector then a whole class can look at it. It make our learning and teaching process more effective :)
